About Us

The Brian Klinefelter Foundation sprung from a tragic event. But more than a decade later, we are seeing the positive impact of investing in our community’s youngest citizens and working with school, employers, organizations and individuals to grow great kids.

Our Mission

The Brian Klinefelter Foundation seeks to decrease youth violence by assisting passionate community members in "growing great kids" everywhere. The Foundation believes that in order to prevent violence, children and adolescents need support from their family and community.

Our Vision

The Brian Klinefelter Foundation is dedicated to preventing violence by challenging adults to accept the responsibility for forming meaningful relationships with youth through positive activities. The Foundation seeks to offer help and provide the tools and resources for employers, schools, community groups and individuals to connect with kids.

OUR HISTORY

Brian’s Story
A Catalyst to Action.

In 1996, three young men who had just robbed a liquor store took the life of St. Joseph, Minnesota, Police Officer Brian Klinefelter. That course of events forever changed the lives of his family and his friends. It left them with nagging thought: It didn't have to turn out that way.

To honor his memory, Brian's family, with help from local law enforcement agencies, churches, businesses and education leaders, formed the Brian Klinefelter Foundation in 1996. The Foundation promotes prevention programs for youth in hopes that future lives can be spared from the senseless violence that took Brian’s life.

More than a decade later, Brian's family, friends and those who never met him bring their passion and gifts to the Foundation to continue to help build stronger families, stronger businesses and stronger communities.
